Construction on a new 32,000-square-foot skilled nursing facility on Westside Boulevard is well underway, according to Adam Harrington, chief financial officer for the project.
According to Harrington, the new building, named The Suites at Rio Rancho, has been under construction for six months with plans to open by the end of May.
The Suites at Rio Rancho is being constructed with a $6.5 million construction budget, and is planned to have 47 beds upon completion.
Harrington did not comment on how many jobs this facility may create.
When asked about the need for this type of facility so close to a senior living center that is in the completion stages, Harrington said there is a distinct difference in service.
“There is memory care, assisted living, independent living and skilled nursing facilities,” he said. “Those four typically make a campus or spectrum of senior living overall.”
Harrington said Morningside, which is just down the road, is a memory care and assisted-living facility, which offers different care from what The Suites at Rio Rancho will specialize in.
“Overall, central New Mexico is still lacking hundreds and hundreds of beds in those arenas for our population,” he said.
Location, he said, was another key factor in picking Westside Boulevard for the new facility.
“Being close to Unser Boulevard and NM 528 was a big factor in deciding to build this superior site where it is,” Harrington said.
Harrington, along with members of NAI Maestas & Ward, are planning a mixed-use development on the corner of Westside and Unser Boulevards that will be nearer to completion by the end of the year.
